Dear Friend,
Whoever and wherever you are, you have shown your compassion to the human race. Being a foreigner never been, is not, and will not be an easy thing, mostly in countries without law and justice. In time of crisis, foreigners are always the firsts to blame. I am surprised that this is happening in Angola. For many years Angola has been in war and Angolans have lived, mingled peacefully in the Congo. What we called in Kinshasa “Basombo”, are Angolans who have found refuge in the Congo. They never been arrested nor indexed as group of foreigners. More ever, Angola today is the best of our nine neighbors. I hope there is a red, black, green, yellow, or whatever color telephone line between Dos Santos and Joseph Kabila. If those arrests are made by the regular Angolan services or forces, Kabila has the obligation to intervene on behave of these Congolese to Dos Santos. Even if they are done by the mobs like it was the case in South Africa weeks ago, the Congolese Government must act through the Angolan counterparty. If the Congolese Government is not doing it, the people of the Congo must do it. A peaceful or sit in demonstration before the Angolan Embassy in Kinshasa will send a strong signal in Angola that Congolese people are aware and not approve the disrespectful treatment that Congolese are endured in Angola. Those irresponsible that called themselves politicians or leaders must change their ways of doing business. Today, the Government of Israel is ready to exchange a captured Israeli soldier with 900 hundred prisoners of Palestine, and the so called Congolese government does even not care about the Congolese people unjustly arrested in Angola!
Nobody else can fix Congo, but Congolese people themselves. They have to stand up for their country. In this world, there are only three immigrant countries; USA, Canada, and Australia. If you are not leaving in one of these countries, know that there is no place like home, sweet home. You must do you best to make your home a sweet home.
I do have many friends in South Africa. When violence against foreigners erupted there, I was concern about them and email one of them. Here is his email reply: “ We are fine indeed, despite everything you watched on the news.
I never stopped going to work and my colleagues were actually embarrassed by what was happening.
The trouble was mainly in informal settlements (bidonvilles).
It is painful to know that 62 people could die because of such stupidity.
Outsiders like you are surprised at the extent of the haterate displayed during those days.
We have spent quite some time down here and we know that some people do not accept foreigners
in their midst, especially when the latest seem to be better off.
They don't even think about the credentials a foreigner can have to claim a given job.
On a long term, this is not the right place especially for our kids to grow.
We should built better places back home in DRC.
Enjoy your day!”
