THE DIASPORA SHOULD SHUT UP AND NOT LECTURE THE CONGOLESE IN CONGO

Here's what one of our members posted on our group email:

"Everyone is very skeptical about the diaspora. They think that we in the diaspora like to lecture them on how to live their lives and govern the country but we are not doing enough to help develop and invest in the country. So, people in Congo want us to just shut up and enjoy life in Europe and USA and other parts of the world. To a certain extent I agree. I believe there is something we in the diaspora can do to help alleviate the pain and suffering of people without lecturing them."

Does this observation have merit or is it due to hopelessness from the part of our brothers and sisters in the country due to the diaspora's lack of action to make the situation better for them?

Anonyme a dit…

First of all the Diaspora does not invest in congo because the Diaspora is too busy investing in the stomach of those who want the Diaspora to shut up...

Any way our brothers and sisters in congo are aiming at a wrong target (may be that's what they have been told). Blaming the Diaspora is like reading the bible with cracked glass (lack of better expression). One might not well connect the dots. In stead of dismissing the Diaspora the focus should have been how come the congolese Diaspora does invest in Congo like other diasporas do in their countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Tanzania, Togo, etc? They have to ask this question to the Congolese Board of Investment (whatever it is called in Congo). Hillary gave a very good response: the environment and the economic infrastructure are not conducive to genuine business practices. If Congo had a performing banking system, a lot of congolese in the diaspora would have a fraction of their earnings be transfered in form of saving to Congo for investment purpose. But the way things are... doing so will be a very naive thing to do.

Fix the business environment and you will be suprise to see investments pouring in congo like a rain.

By the way why Kabila does not invest in Congo? I know for fact Idi Amin invested in Uganda...
